Our Opinion — By Durango Guardian
Yes, Virginia . . . There Is A Tunnel
It’s been said that Colorado’s economic prospects follow those of the nation by about a year. Somebody must have sped up the tape. For the younger set, tape is something that used to record music, and people would buy taped music on something called cassettes. In the real olden days, the tape would be housed in a plastic thing called an 8-track. Sometimes, when the tape was on what was called a reel-to-reel, you could make the tape go faster and the music would be delivered at a higher speed. It would still be music but all the musicians sounded like they had just inhaled helium. Inhaling helium makes the inhalers, when they talk (or sing), sound like the Munchkins from the movie “The Wizard of Oz” who represented the Lollipop Clan.  Read Yes, Virginia . . . FLC Art Students Shine
When it comes to student art shows, I typically don’t expect too much. Realistically, maybe a few pieces will show promise, and occasionally one artist might be outstanding. These are students, and no matter how talented they are and how dedicated the instructors can be, the work usually has a long ways to go. But my recent attendance at the (can you believe?) 48th Annual Fort Lewis College (FLC) Student Art Show proved my theory to be totally wrong. Read FLC Art Students Shine

On Thursday, April 23, 2009 Elliot Eisenberg, National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Senior Economist from Washington D.C., will be the keynote speaker at the April 23rd Home Builders Meeting.  Elliot brings an unbridled enthusiasm and makes a normally dry, straightforward topic, such as the effects of the national economy, energetic and understandable. Reflections on the Local Election
Voter turnout for the Durango City Council Election was unusually low. Maybe people have lost interest in how they are governed, or maybe the candidates just didn’t ring any bells. Read Reflections on the Local Election
